What is Estate Planning?

The words "Estate Planning" carry a wide context.  You will often see accountants and financial advisement firms use these words in terms of tax analysis and investments.  For legal purposes, estate planning refers to preparation of certain documentation in advance of your death and incapacity to designate instructions upon the triggering of said events- commonly referred to as Wills and Living Trusts.  A significant advantage of proper estate planning is minimizing the effect of taxation and court involvement upon your death or incapacity.

Estate planning includes such important legal decisions such as:
- designating a Trustee/Executor to handle the distribution of your estate
- indicating beneficiaries to receive the assets of your estate
- nominating guardians to care for your minor children
- writing down important health care decisions in advance
- creating distribution schemes for minor's trusts
- and so much more

Only licensed attorneys can give you legal advice regarding estate planning.

"Do or do not.  There is no try." - Yoda (Empire Strikes Back)

While some people seek economically feasible ways to prepare an estate plan by trying out software or internet program, this often results in more costly issues for their heirs upon their passing due to improper formation, execution, or other problems.

We understand that most individuals coming in to our office to prepare a will or a trust have no experience with estate planning, so we pride ourselves in being able to do a little hand-holding to educate our clients about how things work.
